On July 15th, 2006, our parish received the great blessing of a visitation by the miracle-working icon of St Anna. St Anna is the mother of the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary), and the icon depicts St Anna holding her. This icon began to stream myrrh in 1994, and was noticed on Mother's Day of that year. The myrrh streams constantly, stopping only during Holy Week. It is very fragrant, and, indeed, during the Akathist we served when she came, the air in the church near the icon was richly fragrant. St Anna is held to be the patroness of Grandmothers, and in fact, her presence with us this day was very true to the loving, comforting qualities grandmothers have. Holy St Anna, pray to God for us!
